The Balance of Formosa
“Formosa” is the name Portuguese sailors gave Taiwan in the 16th century: Ilha Formosa — the beautiful island. The phrase endured because it captured a feeling: mist sliding over hills, tea gardens catching the light, and a landscape that can be gentle and vivid at once.
Formosa Oolong carries that island mood into the cup. In Hsinchu, sun and fog take turns; the leaf grows slowly, gathers tension, and is then carefully partially oxidized. The result is a tea that refuses to be one-dimensional: bright and floral up front, softly spiced in the middle, finished with a calm sweetness that holds everything together.
Each infusion reads like another scene. The leaves unfurl gradually, as if the island is revealing itself in stages. Here, Formosa is more than a name — it’s a cadence of light, mist, and time, inviting you to linger.
