The Iron Goddess of Mercy
Tie Guan Yin means “Iron Goddess of Mercy” and refers to Guanyin, the bodhisattva symbolizing compassion. Legend tells that a poor farmer discovered this remarkable tea after tending a neglected temple for years. In a dream, Guanyin revealed a tea bush to him — modest in appearance, yet extraordinary in character.
Tie Guan Yin originates from Anxi in Fujian province. The rolling hills, mist, red soils, and mild climate create ideal conditions for this refined oolong. Here, the leaves are carefully plucked and gently rolled and oxidized multiple times, allowing layers of flavour to form.
When brewed, the tightly rolled leaves unfurl slowly, like a flower opening. The infusion is bright and light, offering soft floral aromas, gentle sweetness, and a fresh tension that carries through the cup. Tie Guan Yin is not a tea of force, but of balance — where tradition, precision, and softness meet.
