Jasmine flowers

Jasminum sambac

Why we love this botanical

J asmine blossoms give an infusion a refined, sweet-floral scent with a recognizable, elegant lightness. The flowers are delicate and aromatic, with an almost dew-like freshness. In blends, jasmine brings a soft blossom tone that elevates the entire composition without being dominant.

During steeping, jasmine unfolds a warm, floral roundness with subtle fruity nuances. The infusion remains clear and soft, with a light perfume that spreads beautifully through other botanicals. Jasmine functions as a refined aromatic top layer that makes blends accessible, light, and expressive.

Habitat & Origin

Jasmine (Jasminum sambac) grows in warm, subtropical regions of South and Southeast Asia, where the plant forms extensive shrubs along terraces, hill edges, and courtyards. The flowers often open in the late evening and early morning, precisely when the concentration of aromatic oils is highest. Picking is therefore preferably done before sunrise, by hand and in multiple rounds per week. For infusions, the delicate petals are dried in a single layer, sometimes in combination with warm air chambers that preserve the perfume without heating the petal. Maison Tisane looks for jasmine flowers that are bright white to cream, subtly resilient, and free of brown edges—so the infusion remains light, floral, and refined, without soapy or musty tones.

Active compounds

Jasmine contains volatile flower oils such as linalool, benzyl acetate, and jasmone — the carriers of the recognizable, soft blossom scent. These compounds open quickly in warm water and give a light, elegant floral hint. In blends, jasmine brings a refined top layer: subtly sweet, dew-like, and bright, a soft breath that elevates the entire composition.

Ayurvedic approach

Jasmine is placed in Ayurveda with the cool, fragrant flowers that soothe Pitta and give Kapha light space, while Vata remains neutral. In South Asian traditions, jasmine was seen as 'night scent': a flower that releases its deepest perfume only after sunset, symbolizing refinement and inner peace. That cultural layering resonates in infusions. Energetically, jasmine feels like a soft veil of light: calm, floral, and elegantly ordering.

Role in the blend

Very strong herb (1–2.5%): only small amounts are needed, as the herb can quickly become overpowering.

The indicated percentage refers to the approximate weight proportion of this herb within the total blend, but it can of course be adjusted to give the herb a more dominant or more subtle role.

Jasmine blossoms refresh and soften at the same time: they lay a light, dew-like blossom layer over a blend and connect citrus, green herbs, and soft roots. With lemon balm and lemon verbena, a clear citrus-blossom arch is created, while rose petal and linden blossom gain more depth and romance. In combination with green herbs like mint or raspberry leaf, jasmine contributes to a tea-like, elegant profile that makes blends feel accessible and luxurious.

Jasmine pairs beautifully with refined desserts such as lemon meringue pie, white chocolate mousse, lychee, or rice pudding with coconut. The soft blossom touch lifts exotic fruit and gives creamy structures a perfumed, but not heavy elegance. Also alongside light almond pastries, macarons, or airy sponge layers, jasmine adds a discreet floral luxury.
