Marigold

Habitat & Origin

Marigold (Calendula officinalis) is a traditional garden herb species presumably originating from Southern Europe and the Mediterranean area. The plant loves full sun, airy soils, and a long, warm summer to fully develop its orange flower heads. For botanical application, the blossoms are hand-picked daily: always when the flower disc is fully open but still firm in structure. The flowers are spread on drying frames or dried in warm air at low temperatures so that their honey color, soft resin scent, and resilience are preserved. Maison Tisane selects calendula based on leaf purity and flower power: bright orange ray florets without stalks or dust, so that the infusion remains light, clean, and warm-floral.

Active compounds

Marigold contains carotenoids, soft resin components, and floral flavonoids that together determine the warm color, honey-like nuance, and round structure of the infusion. These compounds dissolve slowly and bring a soft, sunny floral tone that makes blends light, friendly, and accessible.

Ayurvedic approach

Marigold has a cool, soft blossom quality that mainly calms Pitta in Ayurveda and grants Kapha light clarity. Due to the subtly drying tone, Vata is used with attention. In European garden cultures, calendula was known as 'sun greeting': a flower that opens at daylight and closes at evening. Energetically, it carries that rhythm — a warm, honey-like serenity that rounds off and softens infusions without weight.
